Challenge 1: How might fintechs transform and upgrade the everyday life experience of Korean consumers?
Korea is one of the most digitally advanced markets and home to many digital giants and successful fintechs. Korean consumers demonstrate strong acceptance of digital solutions and continually adopt innovative ideas and services that improve their everyday lives. This is further accelerated by regulatory relaxation and the entry of new disruptors. Through VEI, we want to understand how fintechs are trying to make our daily life activities better and solve for key pain points in a more simple, safe, seamless way.
• This Challenge focuses on “Consumer”, and aims to cover ideas across:
How might fintechs create richer and more valuable experiences for international travelers?
Challenge 2: How might fintechs create richer and more valuable experience for international travelers?
The number of Korean travelers has grown exponentially in the past decade, leaping from 9.5M in 2009 to 26.5M in 2017. With this, start-ups are offering various new services and solutions that enrich people’s international travel experience. Through VEI, we want to step back from Visa’s perspective and learn how fintechs view this trend, what you think are promising opportunities, and how you are going global. It would be for us at Visa to figure out how we might support you to expand your capabilities beyond Korea.
• This Challenge focuses on “Travel”, and aims to cover ideas across:
How might fintechs deliver value for merchants to enhance their digital business environment?
Challenge 3: How might fintechs deliver value for merchants to enhance their digital business environment?

Merchants with single-purpose transaction terminals are facing challenges with fluidity between channels and ever increasing “Pay”s. Consumers are trained to expect richer interactions, greater flexibility, responsive functionality, and more control at the point of sale. Through VEI, we want to seek how fintechs address this change, what key pain points you see, and how you are thinking about solving them.
• This Challenge focuses on “Merchant”, and aims to cover ideas across:
